Within a war there are innocent people simply trying to live, this poem imagines the story of an individual who finds themselves in the aftermath of a bombing raid, their overriding desire is simply to get back to the one they love.
Is there a poem, a song, a piece of music that has changed your life? In this episode I recite a poem that tells the story of a song that opened up and changed my world completely. The discussion afterwards pays due respect to the person who gave me the opportunity to listen to the song and also the singer/songwriter.
Episode 10 has arrived (eventually) so as a homage to that which makes it all possible today’s theme is words!
If we are lucky we get a holiday or two, depending on your interests and circumstances these can range from a weekend away in a caravan to a long haul destination in a far off land. The poem explored today resulted from just such a holiday, a road trip in India. The poem speaks of someone interesting I met, someone who touched me both emotionally and physically. He may or may not be alive today, a terrorist attack on his ‘home’ left me with a choice, to believe he had survived or been killed. I think Treeman survived, at least he does in my heart.
So here it is, episode 8. This time I explore the story behind a poem about the humble potato! The podcast relates to childhood memories of household chores and in essence is concerned with the imagination we possess as children. I hope you enjoy it and please get in touch should you wish to contribute a poem and story of your own.
Managed to get episode 7 finished before our family holiday so here it is. Do you ever have vivid childhood memories of summer holidays? This episode sees the recital of a poem that explores the ‘enormity of summer holidays’ and indeed the feeling we can have as children of having the whole world before us, a world that in some sense is only limited by our own imagination. I discuss the poem in a little more depth and give a nod in the direction of the inspiration for the poem. Hope you enjoy and please share, comment or get in touch if you wish to contribute your own work.
Episode 7 will be posted after my summer holidays! Sometime around the middle of August. The theme of the poem is the enormity of summer holidays from a child’s perspective. Unitl then…
So here it is, episode 6. This episode explores those who have an influence and bearing on our moral compass and help to shape the people we will become. Today sees me recite a poem about someone who influenced me in a positive way and go on to share the story of how this happened. Please share, leave a comment or get in touch to contribute!
So we move on to the labelling of people, in particular those who are called ‘mad’ for holding views that don’t chime with those around them! Personally, I believe these people are often interesting or can at least make you think twice about how you view certain things in life. So tune in for another poem and the story behind its creation on Wednesday!
Here is episode 5, where the poem and story revolve around luck! Sometimes we just gotta acknowledge our luck, recognising when we are lucky can certainly help to keep a bit of persepective when things aren’t going our way. I must admit, I have been one lucky bastard in this ‘ole life of mine!
